The Nintendo Switch Has Outsold the Wii U in Less Than a Year

Terms of use.Nintendo hasn’t bothered to compete in the gaming spec race with Sony and Microsoft, preferring instead to focus on innovative hardware experiences. Sometimes that’s worked wonders, as with the original Wii. At other times it has been a bit of a flop, like with the Wii U. The current-gen Nintendo Switch (See on Amazon) is shaping up to be a big hit for the company. As part of its quarterly report, Nintendo said the Switch has moved 14.86 million units as of the end of 2017. That’s already more than the Wii U in its entire life, which is even faster than expected. The Nintendo Switch was unveiled in late 2016, and it launched in March of 2017. The Switch garnered attention for its highly portable design.

Elon Musk Has Sold More Than $3.5 Million Worth of Flamethrowers

Terms of use.Entrepreneur Elon Musk is primarily known for founding the private spaceflight firm SpaceX and electric car maker Tesla, but he has a few other business ventures. One of them is The Boring Company, which was started ostensibly to develop the necessary technology to drill tunnels for Hyperloop-style transit systems. The company is anything but “boring” now that it’ll sell you a flamethrower. It’s apparently sold a lot of them, too. While The Boring Company is mainly a geotechnical engineering firm, Musk has been getting the (intentionally cheeky) name out there by sharing neat concept videos and selling hats. Yes, before the flamethrower, The Boring Company sold about 50,000 hats for $ 20 each. Musk could ha

Terms of use.Building a PC has long offered the best value when performance and reliability are your primary concern, but things are changing. With component prices skyrocketing, you may actually be further ahead to purchase a pre-built gaming computer even if it’s not exactly what you want. Hopefully, this won’t be the case forever, but now is not the time to build your own system.RAM used to be one of the cheapest parts of a DIY build — you could get a 16GB DDR4 kit for a little over $ 100 as recently as one year ago. Demand for DRAM chips is so high that prices have essentially doubled at retail. That same 16GB dual-channel kit will probably run you $ 200-250 right now.The situation with GPUs is even worse thanks to

Hearing Aids: Better, Cheaper, and More Accessible Than Ever

Terms of use.Hearing improvement technology has marched forward at a slow-but-steady pace, but a new recent law has opened the floodgates. In a rare bipartisan consensus, Congress approved and President Trump signed into law legislation that includes the Over the Counter (OTC) Hearing Aid Act. The act stipulates consumers can directly purchase hearing improvement devices without seeing a medical professional. It also means companies can sell products that claim to improve your hearing without going through the process of qualifying them as medical devices. While the devices will still be FDA regulated, the greater access to consumers is already leading to increased innovation and lower prices. Many current units sell for...
Fukushima’s Reactor #2 is far more radioactive than previously realized

Fukushima’s Reactor #2 is far more radioactive than previously realized

Earlier this week, Tepco, the Japanese company in charge of cleanup operations at Fukushima Daiichi, seemed to be on the verge of announcing rare good news. Specifically, the company had found some of the fuel debris associated with the failure of Reactor #2 at the bottom of the reactor’s containment vessel. Locating the damaged reactor’s fuel (or what’s left of it) is critical to the clean-up effort. What the company ultimately discovered, however, is that the amount of radiation pouring off the damaged reactor below the reactor pressure vessel is 530 sieverts per hour, vastly higher than had previously been communicated. Previous measurements of the radiation inside the containment vessel had pointed to an exposure level of 73 sieverts per hour. One thing I want to note at this point

Official Nintendo Switch microSD cards are much more expensive than normal versions

Gaming
When Nintendo announced the Switch, the company made it clear that the device wouldn’t require specific, proprietary SD cards. That’s in contrast to companies like Sony, which have previously required that their handheld devices use proprietary SD cards with correspondingly inflated prices. It’s a bit of a surprise, therefore, to see Nintendo partnering with manufacturer HORI in Japan to release two official flavors of SD cards — a 16GB and a 32GB. Forbes reports that at least the 32GB microSD card is notably more expensive than it would be under other circumstances, writing: “The 32 GB card is ¥7,900, or about $ 70 USD. But on Amazon, the “high end” 32 GB SD card from SanDisk is ¥2,690, or about $ 23 USD. Past that, if you want a cheaper version with the same amount of storage (but w
